Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri will officially open this year’s edition of the Midlands Agricultural Show.

The four-day annual event, slated for 15 to 18 August, will run under the theme “Strategising for Economic Growth”.

Chairman of the Midlands Show Society Mr Augustine Mupakurirwa said Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri, who is an accomplished farmer, will be the guest of honour.

“This year our guest of honour will be none other than Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri,” he said.

“She is a well celebrated farmer and by bringing her we want to show the Midlands Province that even women can make it big in the agriculture sector.

“We are certain that her coming will help inspire many women from the province who also dream of being farmers one day.”

Last year the show was officially opened by Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri.

So far, 85 percent of stands at the show have been taken up.

Mr Mupakurirwa encouraged companies from the Midlands to take up stands as the show will give them an opportunity of showcasing their wares to the public.

“We encourage exhibitors to take up stands as this is a brilliant opportunity for them to showcase and parade their products,” he said.

“As the Midlands Show Society, we urge businesses and stakeholders to work together in developing the economy.”

Mr Mupakurirwa said the response from the companies had been improving in the past years, a clear sign companies from the province had faith in the show society.

“Our number has been growing in the past years, a clear sign that more companies believe in our vision,” he said.

“In 2017, we had 165 exhibitors, while in 2018 we had more than 180 companies exhibiting and this year we are expecting the number to increase because the uptake of stands has been going on very well.”
