THE resuscitation of Shabanie Mashaba Mines (SMM) in Zvishavane will not affect the operations of Midlands State University (MSU) campus in the town. MSU opened its Zvishavane campus three years ago and had been using SMM administration offices as lecture rooms for over 3 000 students.

MSU public relations director Mrs Mirirai Mawere said last week that her institution would not be affected by the resuscitation of SMM because they had already purchased most of the buildings they were using.

“MSU will not be affected by the reopening of Shabanie Mashaba Mine,” she said. “In fact, we are complementing the move; we welcome it with open arms. What happened is we purchased most of the infrastructure we are using from the mine so there won’t be any problem.”

Mrs Mawere said the reopening of SMM was an advantage to MSU as the mining giant would provide work-related learning opportunities for students. She said MSU had also purchased a piece of land from Zvishavane Town Council for the construction of a campus.

“We recently acquired a piece of land from Zvishavane Town Council to expand our operations in that town,” said Mrs Mawere.
