Mother Touch Mega Infant Junior School in Tynwald was very active last weekend during the school’s prize-giving day that saw the unveiling of their website.
The ceremony was officiated by Ms K. R. L. Nyanungo, the Acting Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education, on behalf of Minister Lazarus Dokora.

In a speech read on the minister’s behalf, the ministry applauded the strides made by the school in complementing Government efforts in providing quality education to children.

“It is commendable how schools like Mother Touch are helping the Government through giving students access to education,” she said.
Scores of children from the school were handed prizes after having excelled in various disciplines thoughout the year. The students were awarded with various prizes that included textbooks. Those that shone in sporting disciplines  were given treats as a form of encouragement for them to continue to excel.

The acting secretary indicated that she was impressed by how the school acknowledged and gave prizes to teachers and supporting staff.
Outstanding teachers were given holiday packages, grocery hampers, while the supporting staff were surprised with cash prizes and grocery hampers too. It was a great day for everyone courtesy of College Press, African Sun, Kingdom Bank, Munyeza Pools, Schweppes, Chicken Slice, Mbizi Lodge, Beta Bricks and National Foods.

“I have not seen this in many school prize- giving ceremonies that I have attended. This encourages them to continue to work hard,” she said.

Invited guests also got the opportunity to witness the commissioning of the school bus that was donated by the School Development committee and the official opening of its swimming pool.

In her speech, the guest of honour applauded the school for supporting sport. She said they were a crucial part of child development.
“Development of psychomotor skills is enhanced in sporting activities. Mother Touch School is commended for promoting and developing various ball games and swimming,” she said.

The school head, Mr Rashama, familiarised the invited guests on the various activities that the school undertakes. He highlighted that the school was founded on strong Christian principles that they abide by.

“Our mission statement aims to provide a conducive environment with a motherly touch to children so as to produce confident disciplined, independent and responsible boys and girls with the ability to shape the future,” he said.

He said the vision was made possible by their wide curriculum that was in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education’s prescription.

“We started in 2010 with 79 students but now our enrolment has gone up by 800 percent. Our vision is almost coming to reality since Mother Touch is now the most preferred comprehensive learning institutes,” he said.

All that starts well ends well and as the programme came to an end at lunch time, the school’s headgirl, Onainyasha, gave the vote of thanks. She thanked the invited guests from various departments for taking time off their busy schedule to attend the prize-giving day.
“I also wish to thank our schoolteachers for their patience and hard work and dedication in making Mother Touch students who they are,” she said to thunderous applause from the audience.
