“We are ready for the census and all logistical issues are in place. We just reiterate what was said yesterday (Wednesday) during the launch that everyone should ensure that they are counted,” he said.
The census was officially launched by President Mugabe on Wednesday at the Harare International Conference Centre at a ceremony that was also attended by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his two deputies, Professor Arthur Mutambara and Ms Thokozani Khupe.
Mr Dzinotizei said the programme will run for 10 days but that only people resident in Zimbabwe between midnight today and midnight tomorrow would be counted. “The actual enumeration, that is door-to-door counting, will be done in the first five days. However, if there are other areas that require more days it would be done in the next five days thereafter,” he said.
Speaking during the official opening, President Mugabe urged Zimstat to carry out the process in a transparent manner to prevent disputes over its results.
