Five schools in Gokwe-Kana constituency have received laptops, building materials, fuel and stationery, among other donations, from Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube. Minister Ncube, who is also Zanu-PF’s candidate for the constituency for the July 30 elections, was on a whirlwind tour of the constituency, which left school pupils, teachers, youths and women all smiles after receiving different donations valued at $80 000.

Mateme, Nyanje and Mbona primary schools all received four laptops each.
Minister Ncube donated building material valued at $4 800 for the construction of classroom blocks at Vadhowe and Magedhe primary schools.

Youths and women at Mateme, Nyanje, Mbona and Kana received equipment for projects, and cash and balls for games.
The youths received compressors for spray painting and equipment for tyre repairs, hair clippers, footballs and cash, while women received hair salon equipment, netball balls and cash.

Minister Ncube, who is the incumbent legislator for Gokwe–Kana, said health, education and empowerment of youths and women was top of his priority list, hence he deserved another chance to complete projects he started.

“I have often heard people mocking Gokwe as a backward place,” he said. “But now, with these laptops, you can now show them that we are not backward.

“Now, teachers can type their examinations with these computers. There is no need for you to travel to Gokwe Centre for typing of examinations.”

Minister Ncube said a rural electrification programme targeting schools was lined up. “So far I have facilitated the connection of electricity to Mateme Clinic because health comes before everything,” he said. “But soon, a programme is coming where we will ensure that we connect power to every school in this constituency.”

Minister Ncube said he was working flat out to ensure that the Kana people got access network connections as the construction of a booster had already begun.

He said a 180-kilometre road rehabilitation programme which he had just completed will be followed by engaging bus companies to service the roads.

“We just completed the rehabilitation of our main road connecting Kana to Gokwe Centre,” he said. “We have engaged various bus companies who have expressed willingness to ply the route.

Minister Ncube urged the electorate to vote for President Emerson Mnangagwa as he was making it possible for development through the new political dispensation. He will battle it out with six other candidates in the July 30 elections.
