ZIMBABWE’S Mighty Warriors had surprise visitors at their training session this morning when Manicaland Juniors of Excellence Soccer Academy came and donated goodies ahead of the team’s departure for this year’s COSAFA Championships.

The donation, that was sourced by the academy development coordinator, Nomsa Chiyadzwa, included cases of mineral water, juices, training socks and training bags.

The goodies were handed over to the Mighty Warriors at National Sports Stadium by the MAJESA technical director Samson Kabwe.

The former Motor Action player said the Mighty Warriors needed the support of all Zimbabweans in their quest for regional glory.

“As MAJESA, we don’t have much but this is just our small way of trying to motivate the girls before they leave for South Africa.

“It might not be significant but we believe we are opening doors to the rest of Zimbabwe to come and chip in. People out there should realise that the national team is everyone’s responsibility.

“So we would like to thank our Development Coordinator, Nomsa Chiyadzwa, for supporting the soccer Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe.

“They should know that when they go to South Africa they have the backing of all Zimbabweans. The girls have done well lifting the Zimbabwean flag out there and they deserve something more than this. Remember they are the first and only football team to qualify for the Olympic Games,” said Kabwe.

MAJESA is the brainchild of businessman Charles Chave and Kabwe. The Mighty Warriors team manager Tafadzwa Bhasera said it was a pleasant surprise.

“We were honoured today by the Academy. We had not expected such kind gestures from them. So we are grateful for the donation and we would like to thank MAJESA, especially Mrs Chave, for remembering these girls.

“It means there are people out there who totally appreciate that girls can do sport as much as the men. So this gesture will go a long way. The girls are happy and they are excited to be representing the nation,” said Bhasera.

The Mighty Warriors are set to leave for South Africa this weekend to feature at the COSAFA Championships in Port Elizabeth. The tournament will run from September 28 to October 9.

Zimbabwe are in the same group with neighbours Botswana, East African guests Tanzania and South Sudan.
