Harare City Town Clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi swears in new Mayor of Harare Bernard Manyenyeni

 

11:00 – Proceedings have started for Makoni RDC with the District Admistartor Mr William Mashava addressing the 39 councilors.  The race for chair is between Cdes David Mutasa, Taurai Chiripamberi and Timothy Makoni.

11:17 – In Masvingo, the swearing in of councilors will take place at 16:30 hrs at the Masvingo Civic Centre, followed by the election of the mayor.

11:22 – All  is set for the swearing in of winning candidates for the Bindura Urban Authority. Town Clerk Mr Shangwa Mavasere said the ceremony would be held this afternoon. He said 10 of the councilors are Zanu PF while two belong to the MDC-T The Councillors are expected to elect a mayor from among themselves.

11:29 – Marondera Urban mayoral and chairperson elections scheduled for 15:00 hrs.

11:42 – Marondera Rural District Council  elections in progress. Councillor Patrick Chidhakwa has just been elected chairperson. Selection of committee chairpersons and members currently underway.

11:49 – All 39 Makoni RDC councilors have been sworn in and are now nominating the chair and deputy.

11:58 – Voting went on peacefully in Marondera East, with MP Jeremiah Chiwetu in attendance.

12:44 –  Mutasa elected Makoni RDC chairperson and will be deputised by Alderman Shylet Matsangura.

12:57 – Bernard Manyenyeni of MDC-T elected Harare mayor after getting 38 votes against Cde Beadle Gwasira of Zanu PF who polled seven votes. Thomas Muzuva (MDC-T) elected deputy mayor with 38 votes,  beating Samuel Garachani who got seven votes.

13:08 – Manyenyeni takes oath of office as Harare mayor.

13:20 – All the 23 councilors in Marondera Rural District Council belong to Zanu PF. Newly elected chairperson of MRDC Cde Patrick Chidhakwa  said: “We are now one team, let us work together for the betterment of our area. Critisism, on one of us tarnishes the image of the whole council. We do not want people who put the name of the party into disrepute.”

15:18 – Marondera urban mayoral elections gathers momentum as people jostle to get seats in the Municipality boardroom. Unfortunately, many of the people will not be able to witness the elections as the room is already full.

15:24 – The swearing in ceremony for 18 councilors for Gweru city now in progress in the council chambers with the town clerk Mr Daniel Matawu  presiding over the elections.

15:27 – The swearing in ceremony of Bindura urban municipality has started at the town house. The 12 elected councilors have started taking their oath of loyalty and oath of office. Town clerk Mr Shangwa Mawesere is presiding over the swearing in ceremonyas enshrined under section 103 of the urban councils act.

15;32 – In Gweru, among those in attendance at the MDC-T dominated council include Gweru member of the national assembly Mr Sessil Zvidzayi, Kuwadzana member of the House of Assembly Lucia Matibenga and Mkoba member of the national assebly Mr Amos Chibaya.

16:09 – Zanu PF candidate and educationist Cde Antony Makwindi elected mayor for Marondera.

16:16 – In Marondera, former deputy mayor Alderman Godfrey Pasi Chisango bounces back as deputy mayor.

16:23 – Voting is currently underway in Kariba, Karoi, Chegutu and Chinhoyi.

16:27 – In Kadoma urban, MDC-T”s Muchineripi Munyan’anya got nine votes against Zanu PF’s Langton Mabhanga who got eight votes. For the deputy mayor’s post, Hubert Gava of MDC-T got nine votes whnile Bonface Nhamo of Zanu PF got four votes.

16:34 – In Chegutu, Leo Gwanzura of MDC-T got eight votes to defeat Anywhere Mukutuma (Zanu PF) who got four votes.

16:41 – In Marondera, all the committee chairmanship and deputies went to Zanu PF councilors while the three MDC-T councilors did not get a single post in the new council.

16:58 – MDC-T Ward 8 councilor Tatenda Nhamarare voted Mutare mayor while Zanu PF Ward 15 councilor was electeddeputy mayor.

1702 – The election process in Marondera ends peacefully. Zanu-PF supporters break into song and dance. MDC Councillors and their supporters quickly disperse from the municipality.

1703 – Bindura councilor for ward 4 Innocent Zvigumbu has been elected Mayor with Theresa Mutandadzi councilor for ward 2 being elected his deputy. The ceremony was attended by government officials with Zanu-PF supporters singing outside the municipal offices as early as 10 am. The newly elected mayor appealed to his fellow councilors to work together for the development of the city. His deputy echoed the same sentiments.

1733 – 10 councilors, 4 from Zanu-PF and 6 from MDC T have been sworn in by Masvingo City Town Clerk Adolph Gushsa.

1734 – The councilors go for a photo shoot after being sworn in at Masvingo civic centre.

1735 – Zanu PF and MDC T supporters mill outside the civic centre waiting for the start of polls to chose a new mayor.

1821 – Zanu-PF and MDC T supporters still milling around Masvingo civic centre waiting for the mayoral election results.

1833 – Hubert Fidze MDC T Masvingo ward 6 councilor has been elected Masvingo mayor with Jameson Chiwara being elected his deputy.
