MINISTER of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Monica Mavhunga has called on investors to consider putting their money into research and beneficiation opportunities that are available in the province.

Speaking in Muzarabani last week, Minister Mavhunga said: “There are vast opportunities in agriculture, mining, education and tourism in Mashonaland Central. Investors can tap into the research to beneficiation chain opportunities to come up with beneficial projects that will uplift the standard of living for our local communities, the province and the country at large in line with our Vision 2030.”

She said Mashonaland Central, which is now geared for the implementation of the devolution agenda, has a lot to learn from developed countries like South Korea.

“Mashonaland Central is eager to learn from South Korea province of Gyeongsangnamdo, how they implemented this robust devolved system of community development and governance. We are open to have corporate organisations coming to set shop here in various economic areas across our eight administrative local authorities.

“We desire to strengthen research and development through linking our universities here in the province to the several universities and colleges in South Korea to expand knowledge and skills exchange.”

She added: “We are quite aware that devolution is the system of economy in Gyeongsangnamdo is well advanced in a number of economic areas and technological application. Research on the Seamaul Undong Movement also called New Community Movement is so fascinating. It was introduced in South Korea on April 22, 1970 by President Park Chung-hee as a political strategy to modernise rural communities.

“The movement sought to rectify then growing disparity between urban and rural communities and develop infrastructure and increasing rural community income. From this brief, one can draw similarities to our Government’s efforts under the devolution trajectory to improve livelihood and income of our communities.”

The cooperation between Mashonaland Central and Gyeonsangnamdo has resulted in the refurbishment of health institutions at Chiveso, Glamorgan, Vonabo clinics and Bindura Hospital.

The programme is expanding to cover other districts where one centre was selected to receive specialised basic equipment for effective health delivery services.
