Masimba DeMbare

IT’S a move that has been in the pipeline for sometime now and yesterday Dynamos officially confirmed that they have captured Zimbabwe international forward Masimba Mambare on a three-year deal. This represents another big capture for the Premiership champions who, however, remain short of the free-scoring striker they want to make full use of the creative force they are assembling at the club.

While Mambare can score goals, he cannot be expected to provide lots of them, and the fact that he plays wide on the wing, means Callisto Pasuwa, for all the signings that he has made, is still short in the strikeforce department.

Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha yesterday confirmed the arrival of the 2012 Premiership Soccer Star of the Year runner-up and said the Glamour Boys were excited by the development.

Mambare is currently with the Warriors team for the African Nations Championship in South Africa.
Chikengezha yesterday said the 27-year-old midfielder completed his move to Dynamos after agreeing to a three-year deal at the weekend.
Mambare — who was a free agent — played for Highlanders in the last two years.

He is already part of the 26-man squad that had been submitted to Caf by the Glamour Boys last week as DeMbare had provisionally shortlisted him while negotiations were taking place.

“I can confirm that Mambare is now our player. As you know, he was a free agent and we engaged him accordingly,” said Chikengezha.
“We are happy that he will be joining us on a three-year deal. As a club, we now feel we have the right combinations in defence and in midfield but we still need to beef up our strike-force. It will be good if we can get one more striker.”

Mambare’s contract with Highlanders expired at the end of last year and after weighing his options, the midfielder, who won the league title with Motor Action in 2010, decided to return to Harare after spending two seasons in Bulawayo.

Mambare had his high and low moments with the Bulawayo giants and has won silver medals in the championship race in the last two seasons with the club.

But 2013 was not particularly a good year for him as he has to grapple with an unexpected dip in form and harsh criticism from the club’s supporters on the social networks.

Mambare will join 10 more midfielders on the Dynamos squad list who include his Warriors teammate Tawanda Muparati, Cliff Sekete, Boban Zirintusa, Stephen Alimenda and veteran Murape Murape.

DeMbare have gone into overdrive to strengthen their squad ahead of the Champions League tournament which kicks off next month.
They brought three more midfielders last week when they concluded deals with Walter Mukanga, Tafadzwa Rusike and Ronald Chitiyo.
Mambare’s decision to sign for DeMbare will be considered a betrayal by some Bosso fans, coming just two months after he publicly told them that he was there to stay and speculation, linking him to the Glamour Boys, was nonsense.

“It’s really so sad my brother that people who have been so supportive of me are now turning against me like this,” he told The Chronicle.
“Being booed is part of the work hazard which I appreciate but to be called names over issues that have nothing to do with football is really sad.”

Mambare, who was in the company of his manager Dumisani Mabhena, quashed speculation linking him to Dynamos and reaffirmed his loyalty to Highlanders.

“For the record no other club has approached me, all these reports about me joining Dynamos are false, get it from me.
“When I left Motor Action, I approached my employers first and told them of my desire to move on, why should I do it behind their backs?
“It’s going to be the same with Highlanders in the UNLIKELY event that I decide to move but at the moment I am a Highlanders player through and through.

“For record’s sake, this team gave me a life in football, it gave me dignity and respect, moreover it gave me a family and only God knows how I deeply appreciate all this.”

But all that has changed with Mambare moving to DeMbare.
The Glamour Boys are looking for a striker to beef up the forward line which only has three players at the moment.

Reports that former player Rodreck Mutuma might soon be released by South African side Bloemfontein Celtic may have the Harare giants considering their options to take him back.

The Glamour Boys are seeking to improve their fortunes this year after failing to make the group stage in their last two engagements in the Champions League.

They will begin their journey on February 7 against Mochudi Centre Chiefs of Botswana.
Dynamos will not have a sponsors in the Champions League after BancABC advised them they will not be able to bankroll their campaign on the continent.

The Harare giants have sought to engage their supporters through the Ecocash platform and yesterday they received a detailed statement from the mobile service provider indicating the donations made so far.

Dynamos opened the platform last week and the statement showed that they had managed to raise US$305 from the period between December 30, 2013 to January 5, 2014.

“The response has been slow and I think this has been so because of the fact that we haven’t spoken loud about it.
“I believe many people don’t know exactly how this thing works. I also want to make it known that besides the Ecocash platform, we have finalised with NetOne and we now have an account with the One Wallet facility.

“Our Ecocash biller number is 50640 and the One wallet account is 0717 400 400,” said Chikengezha.
