STAKEHOLDERS in Mashonaland Central last Friday handed over goods worth thousands of dollars to Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Cde Monica Mavhunga for the Cyclone Idai victims in Manicaland, Masvingo and Mashonaland East provinces. Speaking soon after receiving the donations, Cde Mavhunga said corruption and pilferage during the distribution of the donations would not be tolerated.

She said transport was being mobilised to ensure that all the donations were delivered to the beneficiaries. “To those tasked with handling these donations, it is with great trust that the responsibility shall be accomplished with honesty and in a God fearing manner,” she said. “I want to categorically state that corruption and pilferage by any means of these donations will not be tolerated.

“I give my highest assurance that every donated item will be accounted for through Government systems under the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.  Therefore, as we move, we are mobilising transport to ensure that all goods will be delivered to the affected beneficiaries, so that we put a smile on their faces.” Minister Mavhunga said she felt humbled by the donation that was made by children in kindergarten.

Speaking at the same occasion, Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Cde Kazembe Kazembe thanked President Mnangagwa for running around looking for donations from friends outside the country to assist those affected by the cyclone, as well as other Government departments for doing a good job of ensuring that victims get the necessary assistance.
