Mabvuku-Tafara legislator James Maridadi (pictured above)embarrassed himself in court yesterday when he could not remember his lawyer’s name.

He is facing charges of unauthorised borrowing or use of property after allegedly grabbing, in a fit of rage, a parking ticket book worth $2,50 from a National Railways of Zimbabwe sales- man.

His trial failed to kick off after his lawyer, Ms Auxilia Mangwaire, failed to show up.

Maridadi, who is on $100 bail, told Harare magistrate Mr Takundwa Mtetwa that his lawyer’s phone was unreachable after he had been asked if he was being represented.

When asked by Mr Mtetwa what the lawyer’s name was, Maridadi just stared blankly at the magistrate.

“I have been trying to contact my lawyer since morning to no avail and I am now asking this honourable court to give me time to engage another lawyer,” he said.

Mr Mtetwa consented to Maridadi’s request and deferred the trial to December 2.

“If you are having problems with your lawyer we are now giving you a chance to engage another one,” he said.

Maridadi reportedly refused to pay $1 in parking fees at the NRZ’s Harare Station parcels office on October 9 and grabbed the ticket book from the salesman.
