The launch of Maphisa Community Information Centre by President Mugabe that was scheduled for Monday has been postponed, the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services has said.
“The official launch of the Maphisa Community Information Centre scheduled to be launched by President Mugabe on October 13 has been postponed to a date to be advised,” said a statement from the ministry.

Community Information Centres (CICs) were introduced in Zimbabwe through the partnership between Zimpost and the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services from 2012, with the aim of changing the way of life in rural Zimbabwe.

They were introduced as a response to problems facing rural communities caused by limited access to relevant and current information about health, education, economy, transport and agriculture.

Information was highlighted as a vital element that was hindering rural communities from fully participating in national development.

The first such centre was officially opened by President Mugabe on July 11 at Murombedzi in Zvimba district, Mashonaland West.

The same concept is expected to be rolled out to at least eight centres around the country.

Some of the areas to host such communication centres have been listed as Murambinda, Ngundu, Gokwe, Dotito, Mubaira, Sadza and Lupane.
