AFTER taking a short break this week Charles Manyuchi will be returning to his training base in Zambia tomorrow as he focuses on his upcoming World Boxing Council title defence fight. Manyuchi, who is in the country will be going back to his training base, where he is set to resume his preparations after taking a short break this week because of family commitments back home and to receive his diplomatic passport. The WBC welterweight silver champion said the fact that he will be fighting at home is a motivation itself.

“I was supposed to go back today (Friday) but I am now going back on Sunday and start training on Monday. I am still training and everything is in place.

“It’s a great motivation and we are ready, we are just taking up one or two things just to finish the preparation. But we are ready. They are even late for me, I am hungry for the fight and come September 30, come in numbers and I will make it for the country,” Manyuchi said.

His manager at Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions, Chris Malunga, who was in the country this week for a meeting with the Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board said he will be moving his base to Zimbabwe to ensure that everything goes according to plan for the fight while Manyuchi will remain in Zambia for his training.

Malunga is expected back in Zimbabwe next week.

“Why I am coming to stay here it’s because I want to make sure that everything is done towards the fight. I do not want to rely on people or anybody and I feel that the integrity of our promotion, I cannot compromise it with anyone else. I feel that it’s very important that I personally take charge of everything which is supposed to be put in place.

“It’s not the first time that we are promoting a WBC title fight and it’s not the first time that we are promoting outside Zambia. It’s hands on and very interesting. I know the Zimbabwean people, they love the sport and you can tell even from the mood, the way people are talking about it. I think it will be an excellent tournament.

“I feel that, the HICC hall will be full,” Malunga said.

Boxing Control Board member, Patrick Mkondiwa, however, said they will only be able to release the details about their meeting next week when the Malunga returns.
