TAURAI Mangwiro is keeping his cards close to his chest as speculation continues to mount that he is set to be unveiled as the next Dynamos coach.

Mangwiro told The Herald yesterday he needs time to decide his next move following his sudden resignation as head coach of CAPS United last week.

The coach, who had served one year of his three-year contract with the Green Machine, asked for the termination of his contract, which still had two more years, following a meeting with the club’s bosses last Friday.

The timing of his resignation has fed into the growing speculation that he might be eyeing a big move to join champions Dynamos.

“I am taking a rest at the moment. There are no plans yet. That’s all I can say,” he said.

Mangwiro left the club together with his assistant Mike Madzivanyika and goalkeeper’s coach Richard Tswatswa.

Already there is speculation that a number of their players might decide against renewing their contracts at the end of the year.

These include Dominic Chungwa, Tapiwa Khumbuyani, Tafadzwa Dube and Kelvi Bulaji.

Some of them, like Bulaji and Chungwa, have been linked with moves to Dynamos.

Yesterday, Ronald Pfumbidzai stirred debate among the club’s fans when he posted pictures of himself in blue colours, usually associated with rivals Dynamos, and captioned the images: “Usandiudzire zvekupfeka coz haunditengere…”

The CAPS United leadership is expected to meet this week.

Team manager Luis Maio is expected to continue in his role into the next season but this might depend on whether the new coach is willing to accommodate him.

Mangwiro, who had a difficult stint at the Green Machine, could not shed light on why he had to leave when his contract still had two more years left.

He led the Harare giants to their best finish since 2009 when they finished third in the championship race despite working under difficult circumstances in which they battled financial challenges.

Madzivanyika was also not in the mood to discuss why the technical team decided to throw in the towel.

“I don’t want to comment about football matters now. But, speaking for myself, I think I need some rest from anything to do with football at least until January.

“But I believe we worked well with Tau at CAPS United. We have played our part. I will forever cherish the moments that we had and now it’s time to let others take over. “I want to thank everyone, including the supporters, for rallying behind us. I believe we did our best, whether people will appreciate that or not.

“The players also did well to finish third in the championship.

“It has been a very hectic season, you know the pressure associated with big clubs. I feel I need to take a rest for now and that is what I am doing,” said Madzivanyika. CAPS United communications manager Joyce Kapota said the board of directors will sit this week to map the way forward.

“Obviously, looking at the statistics we didn’t want them to go. We finished fifth last year and this year we were third, which shows there was progress.

“But it appears they have already made up their minds about leaving the club. We have to respect their decision,” said Kapota.
