In an interview with The Herald yesterday, Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) General Philip Valerio Sibanda expressed shock at the passing on of Maj-Gen Mugoba, saying although he had been unwell, he was showing signs of recovery.

“He was in Ethiopia two weeks ago and he came back home. He actually was on leave, but he came back home to be attended to and when he arrived, for two days, he was at home with his family but thereafter his condition deteriorated.

“I saw him last week, and he was in pain but he was showing signs of recovery. We were very shocked when we heard this morning that he had passed on,” said General Sibanda.

In a statement, director army public relations, Lieutenant-Colonel Alphios Makotore said Maj-Gen Mugoba passed on yesterday morning around 8:30 hours.

“The Commander, ZNA, Lieutenant-General Edzai Absalom Chanyuka Chimonyo regrets to announce the untimely passing on of Major-General Trust Mugoba.

“Major-General Mugoba passed on this morning at 08:30 hours at the Avenues Clinic in Harare after a short illness. Mourners are gathered at number 35, Dawnhill Road, Greendale in Harare. Details of the military funeral parade will be announced in due course,” said Lt-Col Makotore.
