VETERAN long-distance runner Samukeliso Moyo was the best performing Zimbabwean athlete in the Two Oceans Marathon when she finished in position 10 in the race on Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa.
Moyo came home in 4 hours 07 mins 32 seconds in the main women’s section of the gruelling 56 km race, which was won by Nina Podnebesnova of Russia in 3:40.07.

Mike Fokorani was the best-placed Zimbabwean male runner when he finished 14th in the main race after stopping the clock in 3: 19: 51.

Lebenya Nkoka of Lesotho won the men’s category in 3:09: 52 while South Africa’s Hendrik Ramaala was second on 3:11:33 with another Basuthu runner Masilo Matjiane coming third on 3:12:00.

Celebrated runner Stephen Muzhingi, who is a former champion, finished 29th in 3:27:47.

Muzhingi won the event in 2012.

Peter Mavura of Zimbabwe was 35th in 3:30:15 while another Zimbabwean, Sipho Ncube, was three places behind.

In the half-marathon, Wirimai Juwawo came 11th on 1:06:18 as South Africa’s Stephen Mokoka won in 1:04:16.

Rutendo Nyahora came eighth in the women’s division in 1:17:30. South Africa’s Diana Phalula won the event in 1:14:00.
