The Lion Larger Summer Beer Festival came to a wrap over the weekend and surpassed expectations. Thousands of revellers that thronged the Glamis Arena were treated to top-class performances and it turned out that the absence of Jamaican star Konshens, who cancelled the tour over Ebola scare at the last minute, was not felt. However, South African house outfit, Uhuru — rocked the crowd — that was made up of mostly die-hard Zimdancehall fans.
Their entrance before midnight started on a lukewarm note but the four-member group pulled up their socks and rocked for the better part of the performance.
They dished Uhuru mixes of some of the finest South African songs like Mafikizolo’s Khona, Bongo Maffin’s “Thathi Sgubh” and Vetkuk Vs Mahoota’s “Via Orlando”.

Their act was filled with energy as they also used the opportunity to showcase their country’s popular house dances.
The performance ended in style with their signature party anthem “Y-tjukutja” putting a lid after 45 minutes.
It was no doubt that Zim Dancehall youths rose to the occasion with man of the moment Tocky Vibes proving that he was his own man.

Tocky Vibes, who was performing with a live band for the first time in his career, set a different standard in terms of local performance.
His debut was nothing short of flawless, with the lad proving that there were no limits to what the capabilities of the marimba instrument.
The first part of the act had a traditional theme with the 20-year-old clad in Mbuya Nehanda’s traditional regalia.

True to the theme, Tocky Vibes gave his songs a roots reggae feel.
After almost an hour, fans thought they had seen the last of him, only for the lad to return on stage in a different theme altogether.
Spotting a blue designer suit, he sang his party hits, much to the amusement of his growing fan base.

The tempo got to even dizzier heights towards the end of the night as King of dancehall, Winky D, took to the stage.
Winky D remains in a league of his own as he took fans through a musical journey.
He sang, “Tazovaona Vane Godo”, “Pazviokona” and everything else in between. Soul Jah Love, alongside Bounty Lisa, revved up the audience with a stand-out act spiced by Super Yut.
Shinsoman did his thing, although it was unfortunate there were more people queuing outside than there were in the stadium.
