Lingfield Christian Academy, an upmarket school in Gweru that is at the centre of a family feud, failed to reopen for the new term yesterday due to a feud between some of its trustees. The school, which was being run by Mabandla Trust, has been in turmoil after one of the trustees, Prince Mabandla, started fighting his mother, Mrs Stella Mabandla, for control of the school.

Mr Mabandla recently approached the courts seeking an interdict barring her mother from setting foot on the school premises.
Most parents started withdrawing their children after the fight between mother and son broke out.

The school, which offered both Zimsec and Cambridge examinations, was one of the best private schools in the Midlands.
When The Herald visited the school yesterday, there was very little activity and officials confirmed that they were still closed.
“We are not taking students this term, the school is not opening, we are still sorting out some issues,” said an official who identified himself as Mr Guston Chivi.

Mr Chivi, who declined to give details of his designation, said the school was likely to open next term.
