Conrad Mupesa Mashonaland West Bureau

The late Masvingo Deputy Provincial Intelligence Officer and provincial liberation hero Cde Norman Kujoka was buried on Tuesday at his East Range Farm in Makonde district where he was described as a true gallant son of the soil.

He was 58.

Cde Kujoka, who died after a short illness, joined the liberation struggle at age 14 in 1977 and after independence, he was to join the President’s Department in 1986 and rose through the ranks to become a deputy provincial intelligence officer.

Speaking at his burial, Deputy Director in the President’s Office Responsible for Internal Affairs, Mr Ishmael Mada, described Cde Kujoka as a true patriot who served his nation diligently before and after independence.

“He left us a legacy,” he said. “He was consistent and persistent and he remained loyal and patriotic. Other officers in the department should emulate Kujoka who never accepted bribes.”

A war veterans’ representative, Cde Noah Kasikai, spoke glowingly about Cde Kujoka.

Mashonaland West Provincial Development Coordinator, Mr Josphat Jaji, said the department and the Masvingo and Mashonaland West provinces will be poorer without Cde Kujoka.
Cde Kujoka is survived by his wife, Constance, and three children.
