Cabinet yesterday agreed to retain the level 4 lockdown Covid-19 control measures introduced by President Mnangagwa as a containment measure for the virus.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa made the announcement after yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.

She said the ongoing control measures had resulted in a 49.5 percent decrease in new infections, showing their high level of effectiveness.

“Nevertheless, Cabinet noted the need to strengthen efforts to contain the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Minister Mutsvangwa. “As such, therefore, the Level 4 lockdown measures remain in force.

“The lockdown measures are being enforced throughout the country in order to curtail a surge under the third wave of Covid-19.”

Minister Mutsvangwa said Cabinet directed the police to adhere to the curfew times when mounting roadblocks.

Government also implored parents and guardians to complement their efforts in availing Personal Protective Equipment for children ahead of the expected reopening of schools.

“As the nation prepares for the reopening of schools, parents and guardians are expected to complement Government efforts to provide Personal Protective Equipment, sanitisers and other essential requirements for learners,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
