ZANU-PF Manicaland held an Extraordinary Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting on Friday last week as the ruling party steps up efforts to fulfill its election manifesto and accelerate development.

The meeting gave a platform to various Government department heads to give an update to the party leadership on the status of development projects in the province.

Speaking at the meeting, Zanu-PF Manicaland chairman Mike Madiro said the thrust of the meeting was to ensure that the party’s mandate from the people who voted for Zanu-PF is implemented by Government.

“We won an election based on a clear agenda and programmes which we promised Zimbabweans. You are aware that the ruling party is supreme to Government and given the devolution policy, we need to move in tandem with what the Government is doing in the province. This meeting is a platform for these political leaders to understand the projects being done by the Government and how they as leaders can participate in line with devolution,” he said.

“It doesn’t mean that the party should come in and direct how things should be done within Government. The party is there to make sure that projects that have been decided on are being done transparently and efficiently.”

Cde Madiro said this interaction would enable political leaders to go back to their constituencies and appraise the people on the progress that Government has made in fulfilling the objectives agreed on when they voted.

“Next time when we go to elections, they can give tangible examples of what they did and what they did not manage to do,” he said.

Cde Madiro said it was pleasing that a lot of progress had been made despite the challenges created by Cyclone Idai.

Minister of State for Manicaland Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba said political leaders were the link to the people hence the need for Government to constantly update the party on progress being made towards implementing development  projects.

“This PCC was targeted at giving an update on the economic development status of Manicaland and it is a very critical platform where the party and Government share where we are coming from, where we are and where we want to go with Manicaland,” she said.

Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Patrick Chinamasa said the ruling party had initiated engagement with Government in May in a bid to ensure that ministers implemented the manifesto to the hilt.
