MOSCOW. — A Russian lawmaker yesterday warned officials over the possible leak of fingerprints to US secret services via the iPhone 5S.
Vitaly Milonov, a lawmaker from St Petersburg, said he would ask Russia’s Federal Agency of Government Communications and Information (FAPSI) to determine whether there is a guarantee that “the (iPhone) 5S fingerprints will not appear in the US special services’ database.”

“If it turns out that there is no guarantee against the theft of fingerprints, then the use of the 5S could be restricted for state officials at work,” the RIA Novosti news agency quoted him as saying.

Apple’s new device allows users to unlock the smartphone using their fingerprints on the screen instead of a password.

Apple has previously denied the latest iPhone could be used as a tool for the United States secret services to collect personal information. — Xinhua.
