FORMER Young Sables coach Brighton Chivandire has been confirmed as the new team manager for the senior 15s rugby side. Last week, The Herald exclusively revealed that Chivandire was tipped to take over from Losson Mtongwizo and yesterday, the Zimbabwe Rugby Union formally made the expected announcement.In a statement yesterday, ZRU said their appointment committee had settled on the seasoned coach to take over from Mtongwizo, who resigned over a racial storm in the sport in February.

“The Zimbabwe Rugby Union have formally announced Bright Chivandire as the team manager of the National XV’s, the Sables. The ZRU Appointments Committee had conducted an extensive selection process, after having received a number of applications for the role.

“Final interviews were completed last week, the Appointments Committee made recommendations to the ZRU Executive Committee based on their deliberations, procedures and processes,” said ZRU.

It is understood that Prince Edward Sports director Sebastian Garikayi and ZRU general manager Sifiso Made were also intrested in the position.

Chivandire has represented the Zimbabwe as a player and worked in various technical roles in rugby and ZRU hope his extensive experience and wide knowledge of the game, players and stakeholders in the sport will contribute positively to the team.

Meanwhile ZRU said they are happy to host Oregan Hoskins, the president of the South African Rugby Union who is also the International Rugby Union vice-president.

Hoskins is coming to Zimbabwe next week along Ian McIntosh, the National Selector of the South African National team for the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival.
On Wednesday May 7, both Hoskins and McIntosh are set to  speak at a fundraising dinner for the Zimbabwe Sables, who will be preparing for Rugby World Cup Qualifiers in Madagascar.
