LADY Chevron’s vice-captain, Josephine Nkomo, feels the Zimbabwe senior women’s cricket team needs to avoid complacency at the ICC World Cup T20 Global qualifiers if they are to reach the finals in Bangladesh later this year.

Having missed out on qualification for the previous World Cup, the Lady Chevrons have set a target of qualifying for this year’s event.

“For us to achieve our target, I think as a team, we need not be complacent at any given time.

“We are playing teams that were top of their game at the respective tournaments in a bid to represent their continents, hence it won’t be an easy task for us,” said Nkomo.

The Lady Chevrons left for the United Arab Emirates on Sunday ahead of the global qualifiers set for the end of this month.

As part of their final preparations for the qualifiers, where only two countries out of the 10 participating in the qualifiers will progress to the global showcase, Zimbabwe are set to play warm-up matches against the US and Scotland.

The two warm-up matches are set for April 21 and 23 respectively.

Zimbabwe is in Group B of the ICC T20 World Cup global qualifiers together with Ireland, the Netherlands, UAE and Vanuatu.

Zimbabwe begin their campaign with a date against Vanuatu on April 25 before playing hosts UAE on April 27.

On April 29, the Lady Chevrons will play Ireland and then round off their group matches with a date against the Netherlands on May 1.

The top teams from the two groups will proceed to the semi-finals while the finalists qualify for the finals.
