THE Zimbabwe senior women’s cricket team are today set to put their final touches to their preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Africa Qualifier currently taking place in Botswana.

The tournament began this Thursday morning. Zimbabwe had a bye on the opening day and will get the ball rolling tomorrow when they face Tanzania.

The Lady Chevrons are the team to beat as they are the highest ranked side at the tournament.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier is two steps away from the South Africa 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Zimbabwe are in the same group as hosts Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, Rwanda and Tanzania, in the 11-team tournament to be played in Gaborone from September 9 to 19.

Uganda, who are also favourites, form group B along with Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

The top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals, before the two finalists compete, on September 19, for the lone qualification spot to the Global Qualifier 2022.

The event also provides the opportunity for teams to move up the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings with Zimbabwe (12th) the highest ranked out of all participating teams, and Uganda (18th) and Tanzania (19th) also featuring in the top 20.
