ZIMBABWE Cricket have engaged West Indies legend Courtney Walsh to help the senior national women’s team ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final qualifiers later this month.

The legendary Jamaican pace bowler is already in the country and will be a consultant.  ZC managing director, Givemore Makoni confirmed to Zimpapers Sport that the former West Indies women’s national coach is coming to help the Lady Chevrons at the global qualifier set for the end of this month.

“As part of getting the team ready for the qualifiers and to ensure that we qualify for the World Cup we have gone further to engage the services of one of West Indies greats and former women’s national team coach Courtney Walsh.

“He has been in the country for a month now and was with the team during the PNG series as a consultant and he will be with them in UAE for the qualifiers,” said Makoni.

The Lady Chevrons are expected to leave for the UAE tomorrow for the ICC global qualifiers where they will battle it out with nine other countries for the two remaining slots at the ICC T20 World Cup.

Apart from engaging the services of the former West Indies national captain, Makoni believes that the motherboard had done its part to have the team qualify and the ball was now in the Lady Chevrons court to shine.

“These girls have been on the road for quite some time, they spent some time in India, they spent some time in South Africa. We have thrown in the resources to ensure that they go and shine

“The team will be living for the qualifiers tomorrow and I believe we have prepared them enough and we are confident that they will go and qualify,” said Makoni.

Zimbabwe are in group B of the qualifiers together with Vanuatu, Ireland, Netherlands and hosts UAE in group B of the qualifiers.

Only two teams will qualify for the finals set for later this year.
