The Kwekwe road rehabilitation programme has been put in limbo after fire destroyed 40 drums of prime tar set aside for the job.

The prime tar, valued at $20 000, belonged to N-Frasys contracted by Kwekwe City Council for rehabilitating about 63 kilometres of road network across the town.

Work which was already underway along Mbizo Road, stopped abruptly after fire burnt down the prime tar meant for use in resealing roads, which was stocked at the construction site in the industrial area. N-Frasys head of communications and marketing, Mr Obrien Rwafa confirmed the mishap saying the disaster had disturbed the rehab work.

“We lost about 40 drums of prime tar that we had earmarked for use for the road construction. We had stocked the drums at a construction site in the industrial area that we were allocated by city council,” said Mr Rwafa.
