ZIMBABWE’S Olympic Games-bound swimmer Kirsty Coventry had a good outing at the Mare Nostrum Tour meet in Monaco, France, at the weekend where she claimed two silver medals.
Coventry scooped silver on Saturday in the women’s 200-metre backstroke and repeated the same feat yesterday in the 100m backstroke.
According to reports from Monaco, Coventry — who will be representing Zimbabwe at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August — came second in 2:10:97 behind five-time world champion Katinka Hosszu of Hungary in the 200m swim.
Hosszu, from Hungary, was the first to touch the wall in 2:09:58.
Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir was third in 2:13:80.
It was the same story as Coventry claimed another silver in 100m backstroke in 1.00.67 yesterday. She had posted a time of 1:01:71 in the semi-finals.
In the final, Coventry came second behind Hosszu, who won the gold medal in 1:00:10. On third place was Anastasia of Russia (1:00:70).
In Rio de Janeiro, Coventry will be competing in the 100m and 200m backstroke events when she makes her fifth straight appearance at the Olympics this year.
