Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, yesterday announced the recall of MDC-T deputy leader Thokozani Khupe and Nomvula Mguni from parliament after the party said they had ceased being members.

Dr Khupe was suspended by the party on January 12 pending a hearing into allegations of besmirching party leader Douglas Mwonzora with allegations that he stole party funds.

Advocate Mudenda said he had been informed that Dr Khupe and Mguni — both proportional representation MPs — had ceased to be members of the MDC-T and would inform the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of the vacancies.

Ms Mguni replaced Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi as the proportional representation MP for Bulawayo after the latter was posted as Ambassador to Sweden last year.

Dr Khupe insists that she is the MDC-T acting president and has vowed to fight the recall in court.

Last month, the Government through the Political Parties Finance Act disbursed funds to both Zanu PF and the MDC-T as prescribed by the law but despite her spirited claims, Dr Khupe got nothing.

The ruling party, which garnered 70 percent of the total vote in the 2018 elections, got $350 million, while MDC-T got $150 million after amassing 29,97 percent.
