Leg-spinner Tafadzwa Kamungozi is expected to join the Zimbabwe A squad this morning after missing the first day of training through illness as the development side got down to business yesterday in preparation for the tour of Bangladesh.
The side is set to engage their Bangladeshi counterparts early next month in two four-day and three one-day matches.
The Zimbabwe A technical team was happy with the way they kicked off the preparations yesterday after most of the players in the 20-member squad turned up for duty at Harare Sports Club.

Kamungozi, who will specialise in the One Day Internationals, was the only absentee among the locally-based players as he was down with a headache and is expected to join the team today.

The coaches were also still expecting four other players, led by Sikandar Raza, who ply their trade overseas and in neighbouring South Africa.
Former Under-19 national team coach Walter Chawaguta will lead the side on the tour, replacing Steve Mangongo.

Team manager Nick Singo yesterday said 15 players trained on the first day.
“We are happy we have got in camp almost everyone who is in the country. Remember we also have about four youngsters playing overseas and in South Africa and we are expecting them to join camp soon.

“It’s a balanced side with capable batsmen and capable bowlers. We also have some new boys who were at this year’s Under-19 World Cup coming through the structures, which is very encouraging.

“Everyone is excited and we have assured them that if they perform well they stand a good chance of being selected into the national team for the next international assignment against South Africa coming up in August and the triangular series,” said Singo.

The selectors have blended experienced players like Regis Chakabva, Tino Mawoyo, Malcolm Waller and Shingi Masakadza with promising talents that include young Tuskers top order batsman Brian Chari, Tino Mutombodzi, Donald Tiripano and Neville Madziva.

Jaylord Gumbie and Luke Jongwe, who were part of the Under-19 World Cup team early this year, were also included.
The team will have three weeks to prepare for the tour and will wind up with a double header of two-day games and two one dayers before departure on June 28.

The matches are likely to be played at Takashinga as the wicket at Harare Sports Club will be undergoing preparations ahead of the one-off Test against South Africa in August and the triangular ODI series to involve Australia afterwards.

The Bangladesh tour will provide a platform for players to be selected for the national team assignments.
