THE country’s leading junior golfer Bret Krog is confident that the Zimbabwe junior team, which leaves the country for the Curro South Africa International championships tomorrow, will hold their own at this event.
The event will be held at Langeban Country Club in Western Cape, South Africa, from Monday.
Apart from Krog, the other members of the Zimbabwean team are Jack Allard, Mbongeni Maphosa, Kieran Vincent, Travis Smith and Justin Kirsten while Melford Sibanda is the non-travelling reserve.

Krog said they prepared enough and are now looking forward to the event.
“We had good preparations with everything going on well and we are now looking forward to the event.
“We will leave early so that we can take part in the practice rounds and familiarise ourselves with the course.

“The team is good and I hope one of us will be able to bring the trophy home as we have been working hard,” Krog said
Krog will be the highest ranked player in the six-member team that will participate in the event that draws junior players from across the globe.

The Royal Harare amateur is ranked on position 258 on the World Junior Golf rankings and may enhance his standings if he can manage a good outing.

The tournament is a 54-hole individual stroke-play over three days, which are 18-holes per day and will begin on Monday.
Zimbabwe has been allocated a slot for 10 players, but because of funding limitations, the ZJGA are sending only six players.

Eligible players can be either a boy or girl, born in 1995 or later and must be members of a golf club affiliated to a national golf federation recognised by the World Junior Golf Tournament Series.

The Curro South African Junior Championships was until last year known as the Kenako World Junior Series and one of Zimbabwe’s players, Ben Follet Smith, was fourth in the tournament.

He was two shots behind the overall winner Buitendag Jade of South Africa.
Ben went into the last round sharing the leadership with three other players — Samuel Schiff of Switzerland, Cameron Davis of Australia and HP Van der Merwe of South Africa.

The primary goal of the Junior World Ranking is to create consistent criteria to define a worldclass junior golf event, thereby resulting in only those events that currently meet the criteria to participate in the Junior World Ranking.

The use of consistent event criteria will benefit both the players and the governing organisations by ensuring the participating junior golf events provide a positive, competitive experience designed to preserve, sustain and emulate the true Spirit of the Game.
