HOTEL accommodation in central Salisbury will be increased by nearly 20 percent in August when 60 bedrooms in the Jameson Hotel’s new extension are to be opened.

The four-star hotel will be able to accommodate 220 guests.

Extensions to the hotel are costing $500 000 and will finally be completed by the end of September, when two new functions will be opened.

The expansion is the biggest single hotel project in Rhodesia since the Victoria Falls Casino was built.

A new public bar, a grill room and a branch of the Standard Bank will take up the ground floor of the new block in Park Street.

A large foyer will replace the existing reception area which will be moved to the corner area, which now accommodates the Sportsman’s bar. An underground car park will also be opened for residents.

The new extension to the Jameson Hotel can be seen on the left of the present building. The new bedrooms will be opened towards the end of next month.

LESSONS FOR TODAY

  • Adequate, suitable, and affordable hotel accommodation are critical in any city, especially if it is the capital.
  • Harare has had its fair share of hotels with Meikles, Rainbow Towers, Crowne Plaza, and Cresta Lodge being the prime hotels in the city, which give visitors to the city a diverse range to choose from.
  • It is important for tourism players to continue growing their product and sprucing it up to ensure that they keep up with modern trends and cater for the diverse tastes of people, especially tourists.
