THE year-on-year inflation rate for the month of May 2016 stood at -1,69 percent, shedding 0,05 percentage points on the April 2016 rate of -1,64 percent. This means that prices as measured by the all items Consumer Price Index decreased by an average of -1,69 percentage points between May 2015 and May 2016.The year-on-year inflation rate is given by the percentage change in the index of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the same month in the previous year.

The year-on-year Food and Non Alcoholic beverages inflation prone to transitory shocks stood at -4,13 percent whilst the Non-food inflation rate was -0,53 percent.

The month-on-month inflation rate in May 2016 was -0.24 percent shedding 0,02 percentage points on April 2016 rate of -0,21 percent.

This means that prices as measured by the all items CPI decreased at an average rate of -0,24 percent from April 2016 to May 2016.

The month-on-month inflation rate is given by the percentage change in the index of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the previous month in the current year.

The month-on-month Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages inflation rate stood at -0,49 percent in May 2016, gaining 0,02 percentage points on the April 2016 rate of -0,51 percent.

The month-on-month non-food inflation rate stood at -0,12 percent, shedding 0,04 percentage points on the April 2016 rate of -0,08 percent.

The CPI for the month ending May 2016 stood at 96,37 compared to 96,60 in April 2016 and 98,03 in May 2015.
