A flashing header by Hwange central defender David Boriwondo was all the resurgent coalminers needed to shoot down a determined Chapungu in an evenly contested Castle Lager Premier League match played under simmering temperatures at the Colliery yesterday.

The gritty Midlands based airmen had on some stages of the game threatened to run away with all points through some determined play revolving around former Hwange and Dynamos stocky forward Allen Tavarwisa but a delicate free-kick by Tonisani Sibelo 10 minutes from time which was equally met with a powerful header by Boriwondo settled matters in a duel which appeared headed for a stalemate.

However, the visitors were the first to settle down and make a threat at goal after striker Tinei Chitora unleashed a scorching grounder which was pushed out by Hwange goalkeeper Takabva Mawaya for a corner with 10 minutes of action gone. Three minutes later Hwange could have surged ahead after Chapungu defender Hillary Mugoniwa miscued his intended clearance which fell onto the path of an unmarked Farai Vimisai but the midfielder disappointed by shooting way off target with impressive goalkeeper Roy Mazingi at his mercy.

The hosts did not remove the feet from the pedal as hardly two minutes later, young Innocent Mucheneka turned William Ngonya on the edge of the box before unleashing a screamer which was bravely fisted away by Mazingi who had a busy afternoon.
