ZIMBABWEAN golfers Micky Hough and Sheldon Steyn booked their places in the Dimension Data Pro-Am tournament at Montagu Golf Course in Fancourt, South Africa, yesterday.
Three Zimbabwens had entered the pre-qualifying rounds and only Greg Bentley missed out, coming short by a single place.

Bentley finished in 16th place in a race where only 15 players would be eligible to take the field in the main tournament.

He will feel hard done as South African Prinavin Nelson, who had a same score as his, four-over-par, managed to pull through.

South African Brett Liddle carded a 69 in tough conditions to secure the first of the 10 places available.

The challenging course saw Hough carding a one-over-par 73 while Steyn carded a three-over 75 during the qualifying round.

Hough and Bentley’s qualification for the Dimension Data Pro-Am comes days after they missed the cut at the Jo’burg Open qualifying tournament last week.

Zimbabwe will have three representatives, led by Rayn Cairns, who is exempted to play in the tournament due to his previous wins on the Sunshine Tour.

Cairns missed the cut at the Africa Open following a two-under 141 in the opening two rounds.

Cairns is yet to make the cut in two consecutive events this season.

The Dimension Data Pro-Am is the fourth in the Sunshine Tour this season and has a prize money of R4 million.
