YOUNG Achievers Sport for Development hosted their first national selection tournament, for the 2018 Homeless World Cup, in Hatcliffe on Saturday.

The tournament saw 16 teams taking part and several boys and girls were short-listed for the annual Homeless World Cup which will take place in Mexico City, Mexico, in November.

The tournament attracted the presence of former Dynamos and Warriors star Edward Sadomba.

YASD spokesperson, Joe Kuseka, said they were happy with the turnout and believes there will be an improvement in the next selection tournament in Epworth on June 16 before they move to Mbare on June 29.

“We are happy that we have managed to attract the attention of some influential personalities like Sadomba who graced the occasion and gave a word to the youths who attended.

“The event had a good turnout and everybody was happy. We also thank Sadomba for gracing the event as he had advice for the youths.

“We are expecting an improved turnout in Epworth and we hope that we will leave a mark for the youths in the area.

“There is need for more women teams taking part in the selection process and I believe in Epworth and Mbare we will have good numbers.

“We are grateful to the American Ambassador to Zimbabwe who also graced the occasion,” he said.

For Epworth, YASD are looking at selecting the players who took part in last year’s Mwalimu Kumbula tournament, which is sponsored by one of that areas most illustrious sons, Musekiwa Kumbula.
