NEW CAPS United head coach Mark Mathe says Mark Harrison’s sudden departure caught them by surprise, but has wished the British gaffer all the best in his new job at Township Rollers in Botswana.

Harrison tendered his resignation unexpectedly on Sunday after leading the Harare giants in 13 games.

“It came as a shock to us, to say the least.

“I cannot have any other words to describe it because we didn’t expect it.

“It came at a time when everything was going well,” said Mathe.

“The team is now being well-funded and things were shaping up. But some of these things happen in life.

“He had his reasons and he wished us well and we wish him well wherever he is going.

“As technical team, we have spoken to the players and made them understand that these things happen.

“You get a job, the next thing you leave the job. But they shouldn’t forget that they are playing for a big team and we have an obligation to play well, compete well and see our job going forward.”

Makepekepe players were yesterday addressed by one of the board members Mordecai Sachikonye and chief executive Joe Makuvire, who reassured them that things were still in order.

“You don’t need a rocket scientist to tell you that coaching one of the biggest clubs in Zimbabwe comes with pressure,” said Mathe.

“There is pressure, there are huge expectations.

“CAPS United have got a very rich history and there are fans out there who want to see that legacy being upheld.

“It comes with pressure but we are up for it as technical team and players.”

Harrison will replace former Zimbabwe international Madinda Ndlovu, who left Township Rollers abruptly last month after a fallout with the club’s supporters.

“Township Rollers FC is delighted to announce that Mr Mark Harrison has been appointed as our club’s new head coach.

“Harrison, aged 54, has a UEFA “A” Licence and a Diploma in Football Management, and has been involved in full time professional football for 38 years.

“Having played for the top level leagues in UK and SA, he has also coached at all levels across the world.

“With vast amount of knowledge and experience as an International head coach, he has also been exposed to many different backgrounds and cultures,” said a statement from Rollers.
