Harare to host rugby awards

THE Harare Province Rugby Board will this evening hold their annual rugby awards to honour players, and coaches, who excelled during the 2021 season.

The curtain will come down on the season, with the last round of the Exide 7s Series tournament, at Belgravia Sports Club today.

The annual event returned to the calendar, after a two-year hiatus, because of the Covid-19.

FS Raiders lead the nominations with 12 entries, in all categories, while old foes Old Georgians and Pitbulls, both have 10 entries, each.

FS Raiders have domined the women section where their team is yet to taste defeat.

The club have been nominated for the Club Administrator of the Year, where Savious Ngundu will come up against Shingi Vere of XP Horns, and Morisio Jaya of Pitbulls.

The Coach of the Year nominations will see Lissy Wasarirevu coming up against  Geoffrey Madhake or Bob Mahari, both of Pitbulls and Takudzwa Ngirazi of Dombohawa-based, Zimbiru.

The FS Raiders women’s team, which won the Zambia Independence Trophy recently, are coming up against their men’s sides, in the battle for the Team of the Year accolade.

They will also face the Old Georgians and Pitbulls men’s sides.

Backline Player of the Year – Senior Male

Backline Player of the Year – Junior Female 

Pauline Sianga (FS Raiders), Nokutenda Shoriwa (Pitbulls), Kudzai Wasili (Old Georgians/Hatcliffe), Tafadzwa Magangazhe (Zimbiru).

Backline Player of the Year – Senior Female 

Chiwoniso Emelda Mabika (FS Raiders), Nikita (Old Georgians), Tatenda Changa (Zimbiru), Caroline Malenga (Police Defenders Queens).

Forward Player of the Year – Junior Male 

Stebineje Chibwana (Zimbiru).

Forward Player of the Year – Senior Male 

Godfrey Muzangenamo (Harare Sports Club), Godfrey Magaramombe (Old Georgians), Brandon Mukundu (Pitbulls).

Forward Player of the Year – Junior Female 

Maxine Tatenda Mufambisi (FS Raiders), Nyasha Gonangombe (FS Raiders), Farai Musekete (Zimbiru).

Forward Player of the Year – Senior Female 

Rumbidzai Liliosa Chigumbu (FS Raiders), Amanda Tshuma (Old Georgians), Leanne Leah Tarja Max (FS Raiders), Tiffany Majero (Old Georgians).

Rookie of the Year – Male 

Tadiwa Ngirazi (Zimbiru), Munashe Gandidzanwa (Pitbulls), Nyasha Hungwe (Pitbulls).

Rookie of the Year – Female 

Praise Mutandahuruva (Pitbulls), Chantell Philimon (FS Raiders), Ruvimbo Mudya (FS Raiders), Tafadzwa Magangazhe (Zimbiru).

Club Administrator of the Year 

Shingi Vere (Horns), Savious Ngundu (FS Raiders), Morisio Jaya (Pitbulls).

Player of the Year – Male 

Taddy Whata (Harare Sports Club), Shingi Katsvere (Old Georgians), Nigel Tinarwo (Pitbulls).
