BULAWAYO’S hopes of hosting a Test match in two years were yesterday blown out after Zimbabwe Cricket indicated that the second Test match between the Chevrons and Pakistan has been moved to Harare.Harare Sports Club — which has so far in this tour hosted two T20’s, three one day internationals and a Test currently underway — will also host the second and final Test match between the two sides.

The move was however, immediately welcomed by the players, who expressed happiness with the decision. Initially, the match had been scheduled for Queens Sports Club starting next Tuesday but it has emerged that the ZC have encountered some  logistical arrangements, forcing the Test match to Harare.

Malcom Waller — who scored a respectable half century yesterday — indicated the team was happy with the decision to move the match to Harare as it has good conditions.

However, the match will take place starting the same day as had been earlier scheduled with the first ball of the second Test set to be delivered on Tuesday morning.

“We are definitely happy with the decision to have the game played here in Harare, it’s good for us and we are happy with that decision,” said Waller, who scored 70 off 100 deliveries.

According to a statement from ZC by the association’s managing director Wilfred Mukondiwa, logistical reasons have forced the cricket mother body in consultation with the host franchise Tuskers of Bulawayo to let Harare host all the games.

The statement from ZC read: “Zimbabwe Cricket has moved the second Zong presents Haier Cup Test match against Pakistan from Bulawayo to Harare, because of logistical reasons.

A final venue inspection of Queens Sports Club showed that it is not in a position to host the second and final Test match, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday the 10th of this month,” said Mukondiwa.

While the ZC has been faced with financial problems that have seen them in the red as they are also failing to pay players, the move has also been seen as a blessing in disguise for the association.
