Hundreds of students from different schools and colleges in Harare who are vying for a university degree programme were last weekend drawn to the inaugural launch of the Harare Career’s Fair organised by Novus Capitas at Chapman golf club. The Harare Career fair, hosted by Novus Capitas (Latin word for new head) is one of the country’s newest brainchild in career guidance, was attended by students from Prince Edward, Dominican Convent, Harare High School, Mufakose High 1, Roosevelt Girls High, Zengeza High 1, university students, lawyers, doctors among other guests who toured the 16 exhibitors lined up.

Participants got enough career search advice on which path to follow after high school.

“The career fair has been very helpful, it has presented us students with the sense of variety so that we can achieve our ambitions, I can now make a correct decision on which path to follow based on the knowledge I acquired from stands like Ernest and Young (EY), Executive Air, Edu-link SA among others,” said Kelvin Zinzombe, an ‘A’ Level student at Prince Edward High School.

Mufaro Mugabe, a Lower Six student at Dominican Convent said she has better options after visiting the stands.

“I am an art student studying French and other subjects, I want to specialise in either French interpreting or anything close to that. After going through the stands, my options of becoming that have been better explained.

“The fair has been awesome,” she said.

From the beginning, students were taught on how to apply into the university by trade experts like former University of Zimbabwe students, Edu-link SA and Macpherson Consulting group.

“I have learnt more here today than any other day.

“I came here with little expectations but now have acquired the desired knowledge and path to follow when I want to enrol into university,” said Lerato Kamuto an ‘O’ Level student at Mufakose 2 High School.

In an interview, Novus Capitas co-founder Tapiwa Mashamhanda said the Harare Career Fair is going to be hosted yearly and will bring more career innovations to college and high school students.
