THE Zimbabwe Handball Federation have selected the Under-17 and Under-15 boys and girls teams to represent the country at the Young Masters Cup invitational tournament to be staged next month in Cape Town, South Africa. The competition is scheduled to run from August 11 to 18 and the teams will start camp on August 1 at a venue to be announced.

The tournament is organised by the GeBe Education and Sports Foundation, a German non-profit organisation, in conjunction with the Western Cape Handball Association and Cape Town’s Young Masters Handball Club.

Zimbabwe is hoping to field the Under-17 and Under-16 teams in the boys and girls sections.

The national association selected more than 50 players from various schools during the National Secondary Schools Heads finals held recently at Mount Selinda.

ZHF president Amon Madzvamuse said they have selected the best players to represent the nation in South Africa and are optimistic of good results from the teams.

“It’s the first of its kind for the national Under-17 and Under-15 teams to participate at regional and international level. Players were selected from Nash tournaments by ZHF scouts and these are not ordinary sides but competitive players and we expect good results.

“ZHF is growing by day and now it has made impact in regional tournaments. The GeBe Foundation will find comfort and warmth in working with ZHF. We are now calling everybody to come on board for a national cause.

“We have since received another invitation to participate in Germany in 2016. This is a morale booster for we will compete with the same teams in Germany,” said Madzvamuse. Other countries expected to compete at the Young Masters tournament are Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zambia.

The tournament is expected to run simultaneously with a high level coaching course that will be conducted by a top handball instructor from Germany, and the GeBe Foundation have indicated that interested coaches from Zimbabwe are free to attend this seminar but they have to apply through the ZHF.
