Five Zanu-PF candidates will battle it out in the party’s Headlands constituency primary elections on Sunday after their candidatures were approved by the Politburo on Thursday.

Twelve people had submitted their curriculum vitae for consideration, but seven of them were rejected for various reasons.

“After receiving reports from the Political Commissar on the primary election scheduled for this Sunday the Politburo resolved that only five candidates short listed by the Provincial Electoral Directorate shall contest the primaries,” Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said after the Politburo meeting.

The five approved candidates are Cde Christopher Chingosho, Cde William Taurai Chiripamberi, Cde Sheila Mahere, Cde Tinaye Chigudu and Cde Elizabeth Mukangatu.

Those whose CVs were rejected were Cde Tedius Nyikayaramba, Cde Albert Nyakuyedzwa, Cde Nathaniel Mhiripiri, Cde Timon Tandi, Cde Moses Chikwariro, Cde Ndakaitei Mandangu and Cde Dakarai Mapuranga.

Most of the CVs were rejected because the members have not served at provincial level for the required five years, while Cde Nyakuyedzwa has a criminal record.

The Headlands seat fell vacant after Zanu-PF recalled former legislator of the area Mr Didymus Mutasa following his expulsion from the party.

Cde Mutasa is part of the Mrs Joice Mujuru led cabal that has been plotting to topple President Mugabe and has also connived with external forces and opposition parties in the country to effect regime change.

Mr Mutasa, who was fired from the party together with his nephew and former Mashonaland West provincial chairman Mr Themba Mliswa, recently lost their bid at the Constitutional Court to have the by-elections stopped.
