PACESETTERS Gunners dropped two crucial points that could have seen them stretch their lead in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league race when they were held to a goalless draw by Twalumba. Gunners now have 41 points and are just a point ahead of Flame Lilly who beat DC Academy 1-0 to close the gap separating the two teams.

The log leaders coach, Kudakwashe Masaraure, blamed complacency.

Gunners won the reverse fixture 2-0.

“I think our game approach affected us. The guys went there into the game underrating their opponents and in the second half when they tried to raise the game, after we spoke to them, it was too late.

“They were relaxed, even if we look at the first half they were always second on the ball and those guys (Twalumba) are playing to avoid relegation,” said Masaraure.

The Gunners coach said there was need for they need to go back to the drawing board and address the mistakes they made on Saturday.

“We need to correct that before next week’s game. Maybe the break affected them, you know when you are in form and winning, some of these youngsters tend to relax. They were winning in the past games so they thought it will just happen.

“We must maintain that position but this week we should move a gear up in our training and we will just psyche the players so that they remain focused. We will also counsel them because they are down,” said Masaraure.

In other matches played over the weekend, Mushowani marked their return to their home ground Chaminuka in Madziva with win when they beat Black Mambas 1-0.
Fading Bindura United lost 0-1 to Karoi United at Chikangwe yesterday.

Karoi got their goal from Nickson Kondo in the 41st minute.

In the bottom half Royal Classic collected a point against Seven Flames as the two teams settled for a goalless draw.
