CONAKRY. – Guinea’s Economy and Finance Minister Mohamed Diare said the country’s financial needs for post-Ebola reconstruction was about $1,5 billion, between the period 2015-2017.

The minister was speaking in Conakry after meeting with representatives of the European Union, the World Bank, United Nations and other multilateral partners.

The meeting was held in the run up to that of New York scheduled for July 10, 2015, with an objective of mobilising at least $4 billion to support African countries affected by Ebola outbreak.

“The money is a lot, but it will be necessary given what is at stake and the challenges posed by the Ebola virus outbreak,” the minister said.

“Guinea government’s post-Ebola economic recovery strategy corresponds with the multi-sectoral development objectives for responding to our people’s expectations,” he added.

Diare noted further that 46 percent of the mobilised funds will be channelled to the key sector of public health.

With a 4 percent economic growth rate in 2012, against 3 percent in 2013, the negative impact of the Ebola outbreak slowed economic growth to 1 percent in 2014 and estimates show there will be zero growth in 2015. – Xinhua.
