Govt trains facilitators

Manicaland Correspondent
GOVERNMENT is training facilitators to capacitate farmers in controlling the spread of the fall armyworm and other pests that have caused massive crop damage in farmlands in Manicaland.

In an interview with The Herald, Agritex crops and livestock production officer, Mr Paul Sakuhuni, said Government has sought to educate farmers on how to tackle pests like the fall armyworm that were causing crop damage, threatening food security in the province. Mr Sakuhuni said they had trained 11 supervisors in Buhera with expectations to train other facilitators in other districts and capacitate farmers on how to tackle the worm.

“We trained 11 supervisors on controlling fall armyworm in Buhera and covered topics which include pest dispersal, pest identification, life cycle, most vulnerable stage and integrated pest management (IPM),” he said.
