YOUTH, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister Patrick Zhuwawo yesterday set up a steering committee that will develop the Zimbabwe Youth Empowerment Strategy for Investment as Government continues putting in place modalities to ensure youths are fully empowered. Dubbed the “Zimbabwe YES for Investment”, the blue-print will also feed into the African Union theme for 2017: “Harnessing the demographic dividend through investment in youth”.

Minister Zhuwawo yesterday said the ultimate goal of the initiative was to ensure all youths were empowered and became economically active.

“We now have in place a committee to draft the Zimbabwe Youth Empowerment Strategy for Investment,” he said. “This is a follow through on the study that the Ministry conducted to determine the youth investment case. The strategy that will come out of this process will feed into the theme of the African Union for 2017. Our approach as a Ministry and as a nation is to maintain our position as a flag bearer for empowerment in Africa.”

Minister Zhuwawo said the committee will develop a practical and vibrant youth strategy to be adopted in communities with the aim of positioning youths to become agents of positive change.

He said there was need for Zimbabweans to carry on with the fight for empowerment President Mugabe has always been calling for in Africa.

“We as Zimbabwe, we have a duty and obligation to carry through the work that President Mugabe did during his tenure as AU chairman last year,” Minister Zhuwawo said.

“The Zimbabwe YES for investment will be a critical component of Zimbabwe’s contribution towards Agenda 2063.”

Agenda 2063 is the AU global strategy meant to optimise use of the continent’s resources for the benefits of all Africans.

The steering committee has 12 members drawn from the country’s 10 provinces.

It is led by Acie Lumumba.

Other members of the steering committee include vice-chair Sisa Noreen Sibanda, Andile Songo, Trisheillah Ziwira, Tafadzwa Sengwe, Tatenda Mavetera, Vangelis Haritatos, Emma Muringa, Batsirai Chiunda, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi Junior and Talent Chivange.
