Good times continue to roll for St Peter’s Tokoyo Primary School in Nyazura following a fundraising walk initiated by Indian twin sisters that raised $1 300 with the proceeds to be channelled towards the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust. The money will be used to purchase library books for the school. A fun run which took place in Hamilton, New Zealand was initiated by Indian born, New Zealand-based sisters, Shefali and Shivani Sinha. The fun run which started last year has become an annual event to be held around the February 14 to mark International Book Giving Day.

This year it had to be re-scheduled from February due to bad weather on 27 February when it had initially been pencilled for.

Speaker after speaker hailed the twin sisters for their act of love for less privileged members of society. The 13-year-old twin sisters were last year crowned as Goodwill Ambassadors for the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust for the tremendous work they have put in supporting the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust.

The two have also donated the first brand new books into St Peter’s Tokoyo’s recently commissioned Guramatunhu Library and ICT Centre.

A few Zimbabweans, among them Kudakwashe Tuwe, Obert Ngadela, Michel Ngadela, Daisy Ngadela and Natasha Mwazozo from Auckland and Faustinah Ndlovu from Rotorua, travelled to Hamilton to be part of the 47 people who participated in the event.

Addressing the participants, Shefali and Shivani called on participants to encourage others to attend future fun runs, and for people to advise the trust on other fundraising ideas to ensure that more money is raised to cover more rural schools in Zimbabwe.

The New Zealand AIDS Foundation which was represented at the event by the Manager of the African Communities Programme, Kudakwashe Tuwe and Judith Mukakayange teamed up with one Rosebelle Venkataiye to provide refreshments.
