LEAGUE champions Dynamos say they are out to add to their silverware collection when they clash against old rivals Highlanders in the Gushungo Cup at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday. The Cup game between the country’s two biggest football clubs is part of the celebrations for President Mugabe’s victory in last year’s harmonised elections.

“The President is for everyone, regardless of political affiliation, and we thought since most Zimbabweans are soccer-loving, this Cup will give them a chance to celebrate with the President,” organising committee finance director, Emmanuel Sunduza, said yesterday.

“We had initially planned this for July 31 but the PSL could not find a slot so we decided to have it this weekend ahead of our Congress.

“Dynamos and Highlanders were our first choice because they are the two biggest teams we have.”

The Cup will give Bosso a chance to end the season on a dignified note after a dismal performance that saw them struggle in the league championship and fail to make it into the Mbada Diamonds Cup.

Dynamos assistant coach Tichaona Diya said they were hungry for more silverware.

“Currently, morale is high in the camp because we won the championship and we will be hoping to maintain that winning momentum as we prepare for this Cup game,” said Diya.

“The Premiership phase and celebrations are over now and it’s back to business for the team, in fact the coach (Pasuwa) was addressing the players on how important it is to not let our victory get to our heads because we still have some games and we want to finish this year on a high note.

“He emphasised how the players should be wary of complacency because of the fact that we have beaten them (Highlanders) in the past.

“We should not relax because in football anything can happen, so we won’t be underestimating them.”

Dynamos beat Highlanders in their back-to-back league matches, the Bob90 Super Cup and the TM Pick ‘n’ Pay Challenge Cup.

“They (Bosso) will, obviously, be playing to win and end the year on a good note so they won’t be a walkover,” said Diya.
