cultures through music videos.
Since the emergence of Nigeria as MultiChoice’s biggest market, there has been a deliberate stance to increase their market share through airing productions and content from that country.

However, Moxie — who is the owner of Awotak, a music promotion company based in South Africa — said he was concerned that there was little or no music videos being aired on DStv from countries like Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
“As a pan-African music lover and promoter, I am concerned with what’s been happening on DStv’s music channels. There is very little or no Southern Africa music

videos being played from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Malawi,” he said.
He said for past three months, he and his team had held series of meetings with the powers that be at MTV Base, Channel O and also Trace to try and establish what sort of requirements are needed for a video to be aired on these channels.

“We believe artistes from these four or so countries are as equally talented as those artistes from say Nigeria, Ghana or Kenya who are receiving more airplay on these channels,” the flamboyant producer said.
Moxie, who was recently in Harare, urged urban groovers and Zambian artistes to work with reputable production companies to produce high standard videos.

Currently, Awotak is working with Zimbabwean rapper Kapital K based in South Africa, who has made a name for himself across the Limpopo with some of his songs being played on Radio 5 by DJ C-Live and Metro FM’s T-Bo Touch.
Kapital-K has already done collaborations with Zambian artistes such as Crisis, Slap-D and Raydo, to mention a few.

Moxie was behind some of the most successful Zambia artistes among others JK who has a new video titled “Pistol” that features Hanni, the Ethiopian housemate in Big Brother Amplified 2011.
Zambia’s sultry and raunchy dancer Mampi’s latest video titled “Mwebailowelela” was also produced by Awotak is now getting airplay on both Channel O and MTV Base.

Besides being a music lover, Moxie says he is well connected to South Africa’s top socialites and DJs among them Kenny “Mr Sushi” Kunene, T-BO Touch, DJCleo, DJ Tira, lady of bling Khanye Mbau.
According to Moxie, since the Zambian national team’s success at the nations’ cup, it was now time for southern Africa to shine musically.  “As Awotak productions we

want to encourage artiste in Southern Africa to collaborate with artistes from the region as this helps artistes to develop their fan bases.
“Any artiste who feel they have what it takes can email us [email protected] for assistance,” he said.
