Harare Girls High School turned their swag on this week with the unveiling of a new state-of-the- art luxury school bus at Zimoco Pavilion at the Harare Agricultural Showgrounds on Thursday. Spirits were high as the 52 seater coach was officially launched in the presence of students, the provincial education director, school head, the SDA and parents.

The coach was bought by the SDA from a bus levy collected over the last two years.
She said the new school bus was an upgrade from their old one that had earned nicknames like “Aunty Bus” and “Tetanus”. The old bus, a 35-seater, had been in the school’s service since 1976. The luxury coach is a first not only for schools  in Zimbabwe but the entire sub-Sahara Africa.

Zoe Davison (18) had a different story to tell. Although she was excited about the school’s achievement, she was sad she was leaving the bus behind since she completes her A-Levels this year.

“It is disappointing that the bus came at a time when I am left with a few weeks at the school. However, the school has to go on and I am proud that I played my part in its development. I know that students who will come here in future will have as much fun as we did,” she said.
She added that students have a role to play in raising the standards of their schools especially for the future generations. “In the past, the student body has contributed in raising funds for painting the school and its hostels, in clean-up campaigns and for computers,” she said
